Running an aesthetic clinic often means investing in your own appearance. After all, you are the face of your brand. But can you really claim Botox, fillers, or even your skincare as a business expense?
As accountants who specialise in the aesthetic industry, we get asked this a lot so here’s the honest breakdown.
✅ What You Can Claim
You can claim expenses that are:
Wholly and exclusively for business use
Necessary for delivering your services
Some examples include:
Dermal filler supplies used on clients
Skin boosters, threads, serums used in treatments
Uniforms, gloves, sharps bins
Training courses related to your treatments
❌ What You Can’t Claim
Sadly, HMRC is strict about anything that has a “duality of purpose” – in other words, anything that benefits you personally and your business.
This includes:
Botox and fillers for your own face
Skincare, makeup, and facials
Hair, lashes, nails, or tanning
Gym memberships or supplements
Even if it helps you market your business or look presentable, HMRC doesn’t see it as a necessary business cost.
⚖️ A Grey Area
What about models used in training or marketing treatments?
If you’re injecting someone for free as part of training or content creation, and you buy the product just for that – it may be claimable.
But if it’s you being treated, HMRC will almost always see it as personal.
✅ Tip: Keep Good Records
The best way to stay compliant is to:
Keep receipts for all purchases
Use separate cards/accounts for business
Note who treatments/products were for (client, model, self, etc.)
